Hacking is gaining unauthorised access to a computer system or data.
A hacker exploits weaknesses such as a weak password, unpatched software, or an open network port to get into a system they have no permission to use. Once inside, they may read, copy, alter or delete data, or use the system to launch further attacks. Strong authentication, firewalls and up-to-date software all make hacking harder.
